Behind the scenes of 'Forgotten Familiarity'
Welcome to the behind the scenes of making my 2nd year 5-shot film.
My want to represent my culture is a reoccurring theme in my work, even if that is not my initial intention. For this film, the idea to use paintings of Ioannis Kissonergis was my way of achieving this. I consider the Cypriot artists who came before me a great part of the reason I am also able to pursue art as a profession, and integrating them into my work is my way of honouring them.
My moodboard was separated into two categories, one for the gallery itself, and one for the paintings I intended to use.
For the gallery, I found images from different museums, like the Louvre and the Metropolitan, in an effort to create a room resembling that kind of vibe.
For the paintings, my plans were to use paintings made by Cypriot artists, one specific in mind was Ioannis Kissonerghis, of which I ended up using two of his paintings as an example in my visual development piece, and later on in the film he was the sole artist represented.

I managed to model the gallery room pretty quickly, I was also amazed with how fast that was done, especially when I realised that anything not in view would not need to be done into details, saving me a lot of time.
In order to give the illusion of the painting moving, I managed to create tiff layers with the shepherd in the painting separated into those layers, allowing me to move then independently in AfterEffects and making the illusion of a moving painting a reality.
